Tech N9ne and All 6’s and 7’s

Those of you hip hop fans who don’t listen to Tech N9ne because his music is too dark are missing out on real hip hop. Just because you’d rather hear a tight beat and a rapper talking about how much p***y he can get, news flash! That’s not music. As old as I may sound saying it, it’s just noise. Granted that’s what hip hop has become and it’s easier for an artist to get on a track and spit about the booty he had last night, or how f***ed up he got instead of really putting heart into the music.

If you’ve doubted him, just go to his page, and found out more about him, but first you’re going to have to get that ablum!! My favorite songs are “I love Music”, “Worldwide Choppers”, “Strangeland”, “You Owe Like Pookie”, “If I Could”, “Love Me Tomorrow”, “Mama Nem”, “Delusional”, and “Promiseland”. Which is mostly the whole album, duh. Since I’ve heard it, that’s really all I’m listening to, no joke.

Tech N9ne's new album

True Hip Hop

ANYONE can be an artist these days, but it takes TRUE talent, TRUE dedication, and TRUE love for what you’re trying to tell the world. Don’t get me wrong, I still listen to that noise, but I know what real hip hop is supposed to be and right now Tech N9ne is trying to change that game, and he’s doing a damn good job of it. Mind you, on his new album All 6’s and 7’s, he collabs with B.o.B, Snoop Dogg, Wayne, E-40, Busta Rhymes, T-Pain, and Twista.

And quite honestly, they’re the reason I gave this album a chance because I’m used to hearing them. I’m a Wayne follower so “F*** Food” was the song I listened to first. I had to warm up to the album and to Tech N9ne. Maybe that’s the wrong mindset, but you can never push music on anyone. Everyone listens when they’re ready, and I’m no exception. But after hearing the whole album, Wayne doesn’t even matter on that one song. Tech N9ne takes over!

He has songs that I may consider noise such as “Pornographic” (E-40 and Snoop Dogg are in this one) and “F*** Food (Wayne and T-Pain)”, but again since that’s part of our hip hop these days, he creates songs like those to appeal to the basic hip hop fans. I actually like those songs because they’re a good break from the other material, but the other material is much more important. Lil Wayne’s appearance on the song may have other people thinking that Tech N9ne is commercial like the other hip hop artists, but he still stays true to himself.

He even addresses that people may see him that way in “Love Me Tomorrow” saying “said I’m a sell out ’cause I worked with Wayne / first your brain need work / you hurt the game / every lyric that blurst put the earth to shame / how do we burst to fame if both our verse the same / we supposed to be different / you know that we gifted”. I think it was really bold of him to include those artists on his album, but I think he did so just to show that he can work with them without becoming them. They were able to create a very unique sound on the album, but the sound is still all Tech N9ne.

Tech N9ne’s music is dark because he’s been dealt darkness, as so many of us have seen. A true artist writes because he/she HAS to, not because he/she wants to. It’s just part of their DNA. I don’t know all of his story, but I’m working on it. I know that he has seen one hell of a life so far and I have that in common with him, so I’m really able to understand why his music was so dark for so long.

Able to Relate to Tech’s Subject Matter

People who’ve gone through some craziness feel like they have the obligation to share it with everyone else so that they know they’re not alone. I understand the song “Boogieman” (Which is the Tech N9ne I used to dislike) too because it seems to be describing just the general evil that you see in the world. Or at least that’s how it comes through to me and music is open for interpretation. It isn’t just written for the artist. He writes for his fans. Music is supposed to speak to all of us. It speaks to me so much that I feel like the album was written for me 🙂

I’m going to be writing more about him. I can’t even write just one post. It’s physically impossible. I hope you stay tuned!
